The title of this post is a phase heard throughout the world. I've always noticed how people say "god i'd love something with this coffee/tea!". I for one have said it many times, and its true, biscuits, a slice of cake or a muffin all go so well with a hot cup o'. But this is the sort of mentality that has people eating 'badly' in the western world. We see tea or coffee as an excuse for a treat, a treat we wouldn't otherwise have had.
Its not a big deal, but I sight it as an example of our lack of awareness of what we're putting into ourselves and since I started the PCP diet, I am always thinking and looking at what I'm eating. A few times (especially when I'm bored at home) I've found myself just going to the fridge to get something and thinking, "why am I doing this, I'M NOT HUNGRY!!". And thats the key for me, eating when we aren't hungry is the norm for most yet if we don't feel hungry, it means we don't need food, simple as.
Let me know what you think, and keep enjoying the weekend!
Oh, Jack, I hear you... Coffee time is totally treat time! I'm going to stick with my one cup before breakfast and give up my "coffee break" cup!
ReplyDeleteUnmindful eating is what's making us fat.
ReplyDeleteI still catch myself doing that, but I think with continued vigilance PCP will make us much more aware of what we're putting into our bodies.
ReplyDeleteYes. And we don't just use coffee or tea as an excuse for a treat, we also use certain kinds of entertainment (movies, anyone?) and all social events, practically, as an excuse to eat something special. I've been thinking about how to redefine treats, though, to be healthier. Because why not have a good afternoon snack with your tea? There has to be something PCP friendly or good-health friendly that would be delicious. If you come up with the perfect idea, do share.
ReplyDeleteI really craved something sweet with my tea yesterday. So I had myself a slice of brown bread, ingredients: wholemeal flour, bicarbonate of soda and buttermilk (sourmilk) with a skim of honey, delicious! And very low calorie content
ReplyDeleteYes I know tea and a biscuit is hard to beat
ReplyDeleteI've been quite mindful of the 'unmindful' eating habit lately. Each time I've come into my mother's house, I've gone searching for food... even if I've just eaten a meal! It's an odd habit...
